    DEATH OF RAYMOND AND ESTHER SEARS

    Death of Raymond Sears and his mother Esther

    Mother and Son meet Death in Kings Highway Accident (Ridgefield Press Feb. 14, 1946)
    Mrs. Esther Hawley Sears was instantly killed last Thursday night when the car in which she was a passenger skidded on the ice and struck a tree on Kings Highway in Westport. He son, Raymond, aged 5, was critically injured and died Friday afternoon at Danbury Hospital. Both Mrs. Sears and her son were thrown against the windshield and suffered fractured skulls.
    The driver of the car. Mrs. Caroline Verbanic of Georgetown, with whom Mrs. Sears was living, received fractures of the jaw, pelvis, and wrist, and is listed as being in a "serious" condition at the Norwalk hospital. mrs. Sears, Mrs. Verbanic and Raymond were on their way home from Norwalk hospital, where Mrs. Verbanic had had a minor operation, when the accident happened.
    Double funeral services for Mrs. Sears and her son were held at the Ernest O. Wilson's funeral home Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the Beck Cemetery, Lewisboro, New York.
    Mrs. Sears, who was 25 years old, was the daughter of Edgar Hawley, who moved to Lewisboro about two months ago, after nine years in Ridgefield. She was the widow of Howard Sears, who died in 1945.
