Mr. Cogshall spent his early life upon a farm and attended the village school at Mount Vernon, Ill. He afterwards went to school at Sparta, Michigan, and was graduated from the Sparta high School with honors in 1887. He taught in several district schools with success. In 1892 he entered the Michigan State Normal College from which he was graduated in 1895 with the full four-year life certificate course. He was superintendent of the Zeeland Schools for three years. He went to Grand Rapids in 1898, where he became principal of the Turner Street Public School. He was a member of the A.F. & A.M., and also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Charles married Lucy Sarah STOW on 30 Jun 1898 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan. Lucy was born on 25 Nov 1864 in Cascade, Michigan; died on 10 Mar 1952 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
