    Alva Slawson, 49, Crocker, died Oct. 20, 1999, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia. He was born April 24, 1950, in Crocker, a son of Alva and Helen Fancher Slawson. He was married Feb. 3, 1983, in Robinson, Ill., to Charlotte Johnson, who survives at the home. He served in the Army and Marines and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

    He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America; VFW Post 4965, Crocker; a life member of Disabled American Veterans; the Missouri Corporation of Veterans; and Buckhorn Baptist Church, Buckhorn. He worked as a cable splicer for International Tele-Communications, Inc.

    Other survivors include: one son, Alva Andrew Slawson, Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Lisa Erdmier, Crocker; one stepdaughter, Elsie Glosser, St. Robert; three brothers, Stephen Slawson, Bowling Green, and Fredrick Griggs and Jimmie Griggs, both of Lawrenceville, Ill.; two sisters, Lula Gulledge and Theresa Thacker, both of Lawrenceville; and seven grandchildren.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Crocker. The Rev. Larry Atkins and the Rev. Ben Woody will officiate. Burial will be in Madden Ford Cemetery, Crocker.
