Amos Carpenter, Marshallville Ex-Mayor Dies
Marshallville- Amos L. (Curly) Carpenter, 78, of West Market Street, Marshallville, a former mayor of the village, died Thursday morning at Orrville Dunlap Hospital, where he had been five weeks. He was born December 11, 1888, in Belmont County to Robert and Kate Kocher Carpenter, and had lived in Rittman for 20 years. He had lived in Marshallville the past 35 years. Mr. Carpenter, a contractor, built Rittman City Hall, Rittman Church of Christ, and the old post office building and many other buildings in Rittman and the area. He was mayor of Marshallville for eight years. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Barberton. Sons Paul (1920) and Harold (1952) died previously. Surviving are his wife, Bertha, at home; son Robert, who is mayor of Marshallville; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Maurer of Edinburg, Texas and Mrs. Hazel Kick of Rittman; a brother Ross of Powhatan Point, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be 2 P.M. Saturday at Rittman Church of Christ with George Lemasters of Barberton officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman and at the church one hour before services.

Amos Carpenter, Marshallville, Ex-Mayor, Dies---1-26-1967--Amos L. (Curly) Carpenter, 78, of West Market Street, Marshallville, a former mayor of the village, died Thursday morning at Orrville Dunlap Hospital, where he had been five weeks.

He was born December 11, 1888, in Belmont Co to Robert and Kate Kocher Carpenter and lived in Rittman for 20 years. He had lived in Marshallville the past 35 years.

Mr. Carpenter, a contractor, built Rittman City Hall, Rittman Chruch of Christ and the old post office building and many other buildings in Rittman and the area. He was mayor of Marshallville for eight years. He was a member of the Chruch of Christ in Barberton.

Sons Paul (1920) and Harold (1952) died previously. Surviving are his wife, Bertha, at home; a son, Robert, who is mayor of Marshallville; two daughters, Mrs, Eva Maurer of Edinburg, Texas, and Hazel Kick of Rittman; a brother, Ross of Powhatan Point, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She worked in Wheeling, West Virginia. Upon returning home she came down with typhoid fever. After recovering, she wanted to go to Grandview Church for a church function. Her father said she could not go, so she decided to walk. She came down with a fever after that and died.

Ross Carpenter, 86, of RD1, Powhatan Point died Monday in Bellaire City Hospital. He was born November 21, 1890 in York Township, a son of the late Robert and Katie Kocher Carpenter. He was a Protestants by faith and a farmer. His wife, Esther Steiner Carpenter preceded him in death, November 23, 1973. surviving are a son, Russell of Powhatan Point; two daughters, Ruth Carpenter of Powhatan Point and Frances Thomas of Marietta, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Gibson-Bauknecht Funeral Home, Powhatan Point, after 1 P.M. today where services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday with Evang, Everett Kemp officiating. Burial in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. 11/7/1977
