Rootsweb: World Connect - Samuel Lomax and His Descendants by John B. Lomax:
"A HUNDRED YEARS OLD, Mrs. Charlotte Slawson Little Celebrates, March 5, Her 100th Birthday anniversary.
On Monday, march 5, 1906, at her home in Sonora, occurred the 100th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Charlotte Little. Her constitution has been a very strong vigorous one as shown by the fact that at her present age she retains health and strength to a remarkable degree, being able to care for herself, walk about the house, and also to nearby neighbors. Until she was 96 years of age she was able to carry on her own household duties, even milking her own cow and caring for milk and butter, doing her own churning, washing, etc. Her life custom of early rising and hard work has been faithfully adhered to, and even now at her great age she frequently arises at 5:30 or 6:00, A.M. She has never had rheumatism. There are times when her mind wanders and she fails to comprehend ordinary conversation, but in the main her mental faculties are unusually well balanced and her physical health is almost perfect. She passed a pleasant day with relatives and friends who were gathered in honor of the occasion and who took their departure after wishing her many returns on her birthday." [news clipping with her photo pasted in the handwritten Goodrich genealogy]
"DEATH OF CENTENARIAN: Late in the day of January 29, occurred the death of Mrs. Charlotte Slawson Little, at the home of her son, Amos
Little, near Sonora. Mrs. Little was with out a doubt the oldest resident of the community, having been born in Poundrige, Westchester
county, N.Y., March 5, 1806. She was a daughter of Amos and Susanna Green Slawson.
About 60 years ago she came with her husband, Cyrus B. Little, from Westchester county and settled upon the farm in the western portion of the town of Urbana where she lived 56 years. Five years ago she moved with her son to Sonora.
Mrs. Little was a remarkable woman in the fact that while she had lived in the same house with her son during the latter years of her life, she maintained her own home, attending to the household duties, caring for her cows and poultry, making butter and doing other work. March 5 of last year, the 100 anniversary of her birth was celebrated and she actively participated in the event, her mind being clear and alert. During the last two or three years, however, her mind has wandered, but in the main her mental faculties were well balanced and physical health almost perfect. She represented several generations in the fact that she was an expert spinner and up to 90 years of age was frequently busy at the wheel.
The funeral was held at the home on Thursday, interment being in the Sherman cemetery near the Little homestead farm in this town." [newspaper clipping pasted in the handwritten Goodrich genealogy]

Notes:
Name:
With the dawning of the day last Saturday, Sun Prairie lost another and one of the last of her pioneer residents in the person of Mrs. Mary Pinchin, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie DeLine, at the extreme age of 92 years, 2 months, and 18 days. She suffered a stroke of apoplexy Thursday evening the 12th inst., shortly after retiring for the night, but her seemingly rugged constitution kept the spark of life within the aged body for nearly 10 days before the soul took its flight across the "dark river." The deceased's maiden name was Mary Slauson and she was born in the town of Carmel, Putman County, NY on January 3, 1816. She grew to womanhood and was married in her native state, the date of her union with William Pinchin being March 17, 1836. Six children blessed their union, four girls and two boys. The boys died in infancy, but all the daughters survive her; Mrs. H. Marks of Ohioa, NE, Mrs. Emma Gibbons of Pasadena, CA, Mrs. Jacob Wolf of Sun Prairie township, and Mrs. Minnie DeLine of this village. In 1856 the family came west to the wilds of Wisconsin and after remaining for a short time at Racine came on to Pierceville, where Mr. Pinchin ereced a shop and set up in the blacksmith business. Two and one half years later the family moved to Sun Prairie and with the exception of 8 years, when the family lived between Jefferson and Lake Mills, and a short time at Lodi, their home has been in Sun Prairie. Mr. Pinchin's shop was on the corner of Vine and Main Streets and the building still stands there. The husband died in 1895 of lung fever on Feb. 17. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the DeLine home at two o'clock and the remains were taken to their final resting place beside those of her husband in the village cemetery.

Mr. Henry T. Hoyt of this city, died yesterday morning at four o'clock at his cottage at Cape May. Mr. Hoyt was of the firm of Hoyt & Gleason, merchant tailors, Chestnut street, above Fifteenth, and was formerly the junior partner in the well-known house of F.A. Hoyt & Brother. He had removed to his seaside residence early in the season in the hope of recovering his health, as he was suffering from an affection of the kidneys, complicated with other disorders. The change, however, failed to afford him the desired relief. The immediate cause of death was dropsy. The deceased was fifty-six years of age.

Eli enlisted 3 September 1864 in Co. "C" 189th regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry and was Honorably discharged on 30 May 1865. He participated in the Weldon R.R. raid and the final campaign around Petterburg and richmond and witnessed the surrender of Lee and his army at Appomattox. His obituary states that "He was a true and loyal soldier and since the war has always been interested in the welfare of the old soldiers. He was married to Abbie VanGuilder. To them were born three children, Joseph E. and Wm. S. of Mineola, Texas, and Eugene of Decatur, Ill. he came to Illinois in 1866, where he has resided ever since as a worthy and honored citizen.
"In 1868 he was married to Emma H. goodrich, of Virden, Ill., who survives him. As a result of this union there were born unto them five children, Nellie, now Mrs. O.B. Britton, of Taylorville, Herbert, who died in 1877, Oliver C., Lena and Jennie who reside at the old home. He was a charter member of Palmer Lodge No. 501, I.O.O.F. organized in 1872, has been a member in good standing ever since, and was always faithful in the discharge of his duties as a member of the order. He filled all the offices of the lodge and has been its representative at different times to the Grand Lodge. His mother, aged 88 years, still lives in New York. He has one brother and one sister living at Findlay, Ohio. The funeral was from the C.P. church at Palmer, on Saturday, Oct. 20, under the auspices of Palmer Lodge I. O.O.F., assisted by the Morrisonville Lodges and Higgins Post G.A.R., rev. W.W. officiating. His remains were followed to Palmer cemetery by a large concourse of friends and neighbors, who with his family, his fraternal brethren, and the old soldiers will sadly miss him"
According to the family bible, Eli and Emma adopted Lottie M. Goodrich, who was born 7 September 1878. (Author's note: The above newspaper article states that "He has one brother and one sister living at Findlay Ohio." I have read all 334 pages of the Findlay OH census for 1900 and found no brother. His sister Augusta is there, living with her son Amos. Two more of her sons also lived in Findlay in 1900, Cyrus and William Angel.
