Richard De Beauchamp, Knt., K.B., K.G., 13th Earl of Warwick, Herediary Sheriff of Worcestshire and Chamberlain of the Exchequer, son and heir, was born at Salwarpe, co. Worcester on 25 or 28 Jan. 1381/2. He served in Wales against Owen Glendower, defeating him near Machynlleth, co. Montgomery, and capturing his banner, in 1402 (dated by the appearance of Halley's comet at the time.)
He was present at the death-bed of King Henry V, 30-31 Aug. 1422, who made him an executor, and bequeathed to his care the education of his infant son, Henry VI.
From 1 June 1428 till 19 May 1436 Richard de Beauchamp was Tutor and Governor to the young King, whom he bore to Westminster Abbey for his Coronation on 6 Nov. 1429. On 16 July 1437 he was appointed lieutenant of France and Normandy, the most serious responsibility of his life, remaining in France thereafter. "Richard Beauchamp therl of Warwyk" died testate (P.C.C., 19 Rous) aged fifty-seven at Rouen on 30 Apr. 1439, and was buried in St. Mary's, Warwick, being afterwards removed to the Lady Chapel, where is a superb monument to him.

They had two sons and four daughters. He was an ardent Lancastrian and had a grant of various manors belonging to Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury. He was present at the Lancastrian rout at Towton on 29 Mar 1461, and afterwards fled with the King to Berwick. He was subsequently attainted in Parliament on 4 Nov 1461. He fled abroad, but returned secretly to England in May 1464, and made for the North. He was taken prisoner at Hexham on 15 May 1464. Thomas De Ros, Lord Ros, was beheaded at newcastle on 17 May 1464.
Thomas married Phlippe TIPTOFT about 1440. Phlippe (daughter of John TIPTOFT, Knt. and Joyce CHERLETON) died after 23 Nov 1485. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He was with his father at the 1st Battle of St. Albans, at which he was severely wounded, on 22 May 1455. He commanded the victorious Lancastrian army at the Battle f Wakefield on 30 Dec 1469, and defeated the Yorkists at the 2nd Battle of St. Albans 17 Feb 1460/1. After defeat at the Battle of Towton on 29 Mar 1461, he fled to Scotland; attained, 1461 and all honours forfeited; pardoned 10 Mar 1462/3 but at end of 1463 deserted King Edward IV, and fled to Alnwick; defeated and captured at the Battle of Hexham. Henry Beaufort was beheaded by the Yorkists at Hexham on the same day 15 May 1464, unmarried and was buried Hexham Abbey.
