Seeking to find hope amidst his daughter's tragic death, Crittenton turned to religion and began evangelizing to young women living on the streets. In 1883, he opened "The Florence Night Mission," a place of respite for young unwed mothers (Florence Crittenton Agency). Crittenton quickly became an advocate for women in crisis, opening forty-six Florence Crittenton homes by 1897.
