Name:
Mary Prowse was married as a child. She was of full age in 1520 and brought to her husband the manors of Poughill and Doddridge in Sandford, with other lands in co. Devon. In 1516 she and her husband claimed the lands of Thomas Prowse in Poughill, Dodderidge, Ilsington, and elsewhere. She was heir general of Upcot in Cheriton PitzPaine co. Devon, which had once belonged to her great-uncle, Nicholas Randford, the noted judge who was murdered about 1455.
Mary married John GYE in 1509 in Marriage Settlement. John died on 14 Aug 1536. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Name:
He was married for the first time (with one son) to an unidentified wife, and for the second time about 1555 to Grace Dowrish, daughter of Thomas Dowrish, of Dowrish House in Sandford, Devon, by Anne, daughter of Charles Farringdon, of Farringdon, Devon. They had eleven children. She died intestate when her daughter Mary was very young. According to allegations in a suit of Robert Gye against Radford Maverick in 1604 in the Court of Requests, her father "gave great sums to Radford Maverick to bring up his daughter Mary, and that Maverick bestowed her in Marriage to John Maverick, his cousin german."
