    Alene R. Haney, 96, of McGregor, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Moody. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, McGregor, with Pat Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Cole Funeral Home.

    Alene was born in Florence, Texas, to the late Jonathan Tinkerers and Mary Elizabeth (Season) Ray. She was member of the 1927 Florence graduating class. She continued her education at the Kings Daughter's Hospital School of Nursing in Temple and Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin. On Nov. 23, 1933, she married Alva Arthur Haney in Lampasas. Through her life, she lived in Crockett and Bartlett prior to moving to McGregor in 1945. Alene was a member of Sixth and Adams Church of Christ in McGregor and enjoyed flowers, oil painting, and spent much time reading.

    Preceding her in death was her husband on Oct. 4, 1971; and sisters, Velma Davis, Laverne Hayden, and Maureen Rozacky.

    Survivors include son, James Ray Haney and wife, Lyn, of Salado; grandchildren, Debra Alferos and Gregory Haney; great-grandchildren, Kirston Alferos, Autumn Alferos and Cody Haney; and many other relatives and numerous friends.

    Maureen Rozacky, 87, of Taylor, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at her residence.

    Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 23rd at Hwy. 95 Church of Christ with Tim Ayers and James Ray Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Machu Cemetery in Granger. Arrangements have been entrusted to Providence Funeral Home.

    Gladys Maureen Rozacky was born July 30, 1914 to Don T. and Mary (Slawson) Ray in Florence, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Maureen graduated from Southwest Texas University with a degree in teaching. She taught for 40 years in the area including lduma, Friendship, Salado, Granger and Thrall. Maureen retired in 1975 from teaching. She and her husband were avid hunters and fishermen. Maureen was a landscape and still life painter, bird watcher and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Hwy. 95 Church of Christ and attended many Lions Club meetings with her husband.

    Survivors include her husband, John E. Rozacky of Taylor; a sister, Alene Haney of Moody, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Oran Davis Apr. 22, 1925 - Nov. 23, 2006

    Oran P. Davis, of Georgetown, passed away at Scott and White Hospital on Thanksgiving morning after a long, hard struggle with heart disease.

    Reared in Florence, Mr. Davis signed his first professional baseball contract with a farm team of the Cleveland Indians at age 16. After serving in the Army Air Corp. in World War II, Mr. Davis attended the University of Western Michigan on a baseball scholarship and then played professionally for the Boston Braves organization, Seattle Rainiers and the Austin Pioneers. He joined the Bettis Corporation in 1943 where he ultimately led the growth of that company as Chairman and principal stockholder until his retirement in 2002. An avid golfer, traveler, fisherman and all-round sports fan, Mr. Davis was active in the Austin and Georgetown business communities, serving as President of the Delwood Optimist Club, where coached Little League, and later, President of the Georgetown Country Club.

    Oran Davis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Wales Davis, with whom he traveled the world. They have two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren. Their son Glenn Davis and wife Marilyn, of Georgetown, with two sons and a daughter, Travis Davis of Austin, Troy Davis of Georgetown, and Misty Casisa and husband, John, of Austin; their son Scott Davis of Georgetown, and their daughter Lisa Davis Tanner, of Pflugerville, and her two children Kristopher Tanner of Denton and Megan Tanner of Pflugerville. Preceded in death by his parents, Oran Purcell Davis and Velma Ray Davis of Florence. He is also survived by two sisters, Dodie Chanslor and husband R.D., of Killeen and Joan Jackson and husband L.O., of Fredericksburg, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Funeral services for Mr. Davis Monday, November 27, in Georgetown at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home at 2900 Williams Drive. Interment followed at the Florence City Cemetery. [Based on an obituary published in the Austin American-Statesman on 11/25/2006.]
