    COUNCIL GROVE ?Vernon H. Day, 95, longtime resident of Council Grove, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at Morris County Hospital. He was born March 8, 1919, in Alta Vista to William and Cora (Grubaugh) Day.He married Alberta Richardson on June 18, 1942. He joined the United States Army on Oct. 10, 1942, and he was honorably discharged March 11, 1946.Vernon enjoyed his home and yard and tinkering on things. His Chihuahua Chico was his loyal companion. He will be sadly missed by all.Vernon worked at Ford Garage, Skelly Oil Company, delivered propane and Kansas Instrument, where he retired in 1984.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alberta, in 1994, and sons, Danny Day and Billy Dean Day.Vernon is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Floyd) Westover; grandchildren, Ronda Frazier and Randy Frazier (Charlene), all of Salina, and Mitchell (Lacey) Day, of Moundridge; stepgrandchildren, Veronica Miley, Eugene Westover, and Markus and Mike Anderson; great-granddaughter, Amber Frazier; step grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel.
