    Anna Rosella Gay

    Anna Rosella (nee Long) Gay, a long time Channahon resident who was celebrating her 100th year, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

    She was born December 22, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Julia (nee Hulbert) Long in Channahon where she was raised. In 1949, Anna and her family moved to Joliet, and she began a long career at Silver Cross Hospital, retiring in 1980.

    Survived by her daughter, Harriet (late Ed) Wicburg of Oceanside, CA; two sons, William G. Gay and Robert A. (Colleen) Gray, both of Channahon, IL; grandchildren, Edward (Tamera) Wicburg, David (Charlie) Wicburg, Teri (Bob) Hume; Judy Ann (Omar) Bahaeddin, Tammy (Richard) Bartel, Robert A. (Janelle) Gray, Jr. and Georgette Salazar; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.

    Preceded in death by her husband, William (1972); daughter, Judith Parks (2014); and grandchildren, James Bonner (1959), William De Lucio (2008) and Lori Wicburg (2009).

    Anna loved her family very much. She loved traveling, Bingo, reading the Enquirer and playing the slot machines. A member of Channahon Women's Relief Corp. and Channahon United Methodist Church.

    The family of Anna Gay will always remember the kindness and care that Rev. McGuire and the nurses of Joliet Area Community Hospice provided her throughout her latter stages.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Interment to follow in Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. He married Dorothy M. Berta on October 30, 1944 in Braidwood, IL. He is the son of the late Raymond and Minnie Hulbert. Ray served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII and was a Master Sergeant. He retired from Will County, IL as their Zoning Enforcement Officer. Raymond was a member of the Channahon School Board of Education for 34 years. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was an avid sports fan, attending all his grandchildren's games and events. Ray and Dorothy enjoyed traveling, including Europe, New Zealand, Australia and all fifty states. He enjoyed going to plays and musical performances and playing cards.     Robert E. "Bob" Long, 81 years, of Oswego, IL died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Alden of Waterford in Aurora, IL. He was born May 2, 1924 in Joliet, IL, the son of the late Charles E. and Clara E. (nee Wilkinson) Long.
    He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oswego, IL and a life member of Montgomery Memorial VFW Post in Montgomery, IL.
    He served his country honorably during World War II, serving in Europe until he was wounded in October of 1944. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
    Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a watchmaker for 38 years, 26 of which was at Bockman Jewelers in Aurora, IL.
    He is survived by his wife, Betty (nee Weise), whom he married on August 21, 1946 in Oswego, IL and after marriage, resided in Joliet, IL for a time; a daughter, Susan Burnette of Oswego, IL; granddaughter, Angela (Erik) Larson of Leander, TX; two great grandchildren, Brooke and Ben Larson; several nieces and nephews; and by a sister-in-law, Julia Long of Joliet, IL. Gay-Parks (Bonner), age 74, of Morris and a former longtime Channahon resident, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home on Monday, December 1, 2014. Born in Channahon on June 8, 1940, to Anna (nee Long) and the late William G. Gay.

    Beloved mother of Judy Ann (Omar) Bahaeddin of Pacifica, CA and the late James Bonner in infancy; loving grandmother of Alex Ganster and Michael Ganster both of Joliet; proud great-grandmother of the light of her life, "Little Miss" Anya Rosella McKinnon; dearest daughter of Anna Rosella Gay of Channahon; loving sister of Harriet (late Edward) Wicburg of Oceanside, CA, William Gay and Robert (Colleen) Gray both of Channahon; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Preceded in death by her husbands, Charles "Charlie" Parks and William Bonner; father, William Gay; and son, James.

    Judith retired from Fisher Body of Willow Springs after many years of service. She also worked at Silver Cross Hospital and the Ammunition Plant (APSA) in her younger years. Funeral Services for Judith L. Parks will be Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet. Interment Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon. Visitation TODAY Wednesday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Judy's wish was for everyone to wear their favorite jeans at her wake and funeral.

    William G. Gay, Sr., lovingly known as ?Bill? and ?Grumpy?, age 80, of Channahon, passed away peacefully, December 22, 2022 at 6:17 p.m., at Lightways Hospice, with his loving daughter by his side.

    Born July 8, 1942 in Joliet, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Long) Gay.

    Bill grew up in Channahon and Joliet graduating from Joliet Central Class of 1960. After high school, he joined the Army to serve his Country. He worked at the Joliet Arsenal before settling in at Stepan Chemical where he retired from in 2005. He had many friendships there and really had some stories! He also tended bar at Stone City VFW where once again- he knew everyone! Once he retired, he then worked part time at Midwest valve in Minooka, where he enjoyed hanging out in the shop talking to all the guys- even when he was not working.

    He certainly had the gift to gab, however his greatest thing to brag about were his five grandchildren. He was so proud of them and was not afraid to tell you. They each had their special moments with their ?Paw?, and he did not miss much of whatever they were involved in. He also loved going on ?casino roadtrips? with his brother, Bob.

    Bill was someone who you always knew where you stood with him, and that pointer finger would come out to make sure you got it. He was a fighter and as a family we learned he was not a quitter over the last year which was something we were so proud of.

    Surviving are his daughter, Georgette (Craig Siegel) Salazar of Minooka; five grandchildren, Olivia (Freddie Ramos) Salazar of Mount Prospect, Maximus Salazar of Minooka, Nikolas (Sarah Kelly) Holland of Reddick, William DeLucio of Reddick, and Logan DeLucio of Reddick; daughter in law, Trichelle (Russell) Mattas of Reddick; one sister, Harriet (the late Ed) Wicburg of Oceanside, CA; one brother, Robert A. (Colleen) Gray of Channahon; and several nieces and nephews.

    Bill also had some wonderful friends who he considered family: Mary, Heather, Tammy, Jerry (aka ?the newspaper?), Kevin, Rick and Virginia (aka Fred and Ethel) and his favorite granddog, Mavis. He always had special names for those closest to him, and that will be dearly missed.

    He was preceded in death by his son, William ?Billy? Delucio (2008); his parents; a sister, Judith Parks; and his best friend, Bernie.

    Family would like to extend a big Thank you to Dr. Suh and Lightways Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness. It is truly amazing what kindness can do for the soul!!

    After high school, Elmer was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies to play professional baseball. He honorably served his country in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and a Master's Degree from Northern Illinois University. As the first Athletic Director of the College of St. Francis, Elmer designed and built their first baseball diamond, currently the JCA Varsity field. His lifelong love of baseball and his passion for coaching and teaching, inspired players to excel in sports and throughout their lives. Teams Elmer coached include: Troy, Laraway, Joliet East, Arizona State University, College of St. Francis, June's Camp and various summer teams.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janet (Duckmanton) Bell.

    Elmer was truly a generous and loving person, and is survived by five children, Scott (Deanne), Gerry (Don), Cris (Jeannie), Bill (Anne) Bell and Judie (Mike) Cottrell; six grandchildren, Marissa, Tony, Lindy, Brionne, Alexa and Zak Bell; and great-grandson, Jesse Bell.     Robert D. Bell, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2013.

    Bob was born and raised in Joliet, and graduated from Joliet Central High School and Northern Illinois University. He retired in 2004 as Controller of Rose Packing in Barrington, Illinois.

    Bob loved playing the piano, musicals, video poker, traveling, watching his grandchildren grow to the amazing individuals they are now, and his St. Bernard dogs. He will be greatly missed.

    He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie (nee Sullivan); daughter, Sharon (Rick) Fox; son, Greg (Sue) Bell; six grandchildren, Dan, Mark and Lauren Fox; Nick, Sean and Caty Bell; brother, Elmer (Janet) Bell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Mike Hermsen; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear cousin, Peggy Karstens.

    Preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Angela (nee Kezerle) Bell.

    Visitation Friday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Funeral Services for Robert D. Bell will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet to Holy Family Catholic Church for mass at 10:00 a.m.
