    Notes:

    Name:
Excerpts from e-mail from Donna McCool, dtd 06-23-2012: Ebenezer Nims was born March 14, 1687 in Deerfield MA. He was the son of Godfrey Nims and Godfrey's first wife Mary Miller Williams, the widow of Zebediah Williams. Nims family tradition says that Godfrey's roots go to Nimes, France and a Huguenot family. No trace of Godfrey's birth has been found and the family is currently going further afield in search of his origins. Godfrey is the first of his family name in America and it is believed that all Nimses in America are descendants of Godrey. He is first heard of in Northampton, MA in 1667 and in 1685 was granted his first land in Deerfield.

Ebenezer was 17 years old at the time of the 1704 raid, was captured and taken to Lorette. Tradition says that priests were putting pressure on Sarah Hoyt to marry a French officer convert, and that she outsmarted the priests by finally saying she would marry a fellow captive if one would have her. Ebenezer Nims stepped forward and the two were married.

Family/Spouse: Sarah HOYT. Sarah (daughter of David HOYT and Mary WILSON) was born on 06 May 1686; died on 11 Jan 1761 in Deerfield, Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
