    David Paul Van Wart I, age 63, of Shelton, passed away February 25, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital after a short illness. David was born in Bridgeport to the late Irving and Esther Van Wart.

    He was a journeyman cabinet maker and worked with his dad Irving in Irv-van's and sons Cabinet Shop until his dad retired. David then worked for Yale New Haven Hospital for over 18 years. David was an avid chef and the former proprietor of the Hungary Bear Deli.

    Dave Van Wart was a long time active member of the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America. Starting with his son David in Webelos, who has since become an Eagle Scout, Dave has served in may capacities in Scouting. These include Executive Officer of Crew 2828, as well as committee member of Troop 28 and a member of the council activities committee. Dave served as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 25 for three years and Scoutmaster of the Troop for three years. He also served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 28, Advisor of Crew 28, Scoutmaster of the 1993 Jamboree Troop and was registered as a committee member of Crew 2828, receiving the Presidental Award Dave was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and had participated in Scouting for Food for 12 years. He completed the Minuteman adult training course in 1992 and was on the staff for a very long time. In 1992 he completed his Woodbadge leadership course and received his beads in 1992. He served on the annual council Wood Badge gathering committee. He was on staff at the CT University of Scouting for 3 years, a camp master and member of the Boy Scout activities committee where he directed Venture activities at camporees and Klondike Derbies for 6 years. Dave was one of the originators of the Indian Dance Team of Troop 25. He assisted in building Hannah's playground for the physically disabled, which is sponsored by the Easter Seals Foundation. He also assisted in building a number of projects for the Nichols Fire Department of Trumbull where his wife, Jo Lynn, was a member.

    Dave received the Housatonic Council District Award of Merit, a very high honor. He is survived by his wife JoLynn Van Wart (member of Huntington Fire Company #3) of Shelton; three children Jennifer Van Wart of Shelton, Kimberly Atkinson and her husband James of Shelton, and David Van Wart II (member of Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co#1 in Shelton, Citizens Engine in Seymour and a Naugatuck Fire Department Dispatcher) and his wife Trish of Seymour; his brother Richard Van Wart and his wife Michele of Shelton; his niece Taylor Szinavel and her husband Matthew and his nephew Ryan Van Wart.

    Friends may greet the family on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church 5995 Main St. Trumbull.
    Inurnment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
