    Edward Carleton arrived in Massachusetts in the summer of 1638 with his wife Ellen, in the group of Yorkshire settlers who followed the Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, the rector of Rowley in the East Riding, of Yorkshire, to found the town of Rowley, Massachusetts, in 1639, where for ten years Edward Carleton was one of the leading citizens.

    Edward married Ellen NEWTON on 3 Nov 1636 in St. Martin Michelgate, York. Ellen (daughter of Lancelot NEWTON and Mary LEE) was christened on 24 Feb 1614 in Hedon. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
