He was a farmer and tanner in Canterbury, where, October 8, 1791, he bought for L487, 15s, one hundred and thirteen and three-quarters acres of land.

Who departed this life
August 21st AD 1808 in
the 63rd Year of his age.
The fist intered in this
grave yard.
He was an honest man,
respected in life & regretted in death.
Had few enemies & many friends
within the circle of his acquaintance.
And has left on earth with those
who knew him the rate example
of industry and frugality mingled
with benevolence and hospitality.
But all alas must die.
This earth affords no permanent abode.
We journey through and yield
our souls to God.

Alice was born on 30 Mar 1753 in Canterbury, Windham Co., Connecticut; died on 29 Jun 1827 in Canterbury, Windham Co., Connecticut; was buried in Hyde Cemetery, Canterbury, Windham Co., Connecticut.
