    Name:
Lillian Smith died peacefully on Feb. 12, 2009, at Morningside of Williamsburg.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1915, in Montecello, IA. A life-long resident of Williamsburg, she attended Matthew Whaley High School and the College of William & Mary, and worked at Camp Peary as a telephone operator and supervisor until she retired.
Lillian loved flowers and was an avid gardener. She organized the Dogwood Garden Club in 1963 from her home in Queen's Lake, and helped to organize the Williamsburg Area Council of Garden Clubs. In 2007, she was the proud recipient of the Garden Club Arbor Day Award presented by the Williamsburg Area Council of Garden Clubs.
Lillian also enjoyed the beauty of her home and had a special love for the swans and geese which lived in the waters of Queen's Lake. She was delighted when her book, "A Goose Named Lucy" was printed in 1997, and she happily shared it with family and friends.
Lillian is preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Sutton, her parents Claude and Taletta Slauson; and her sister, Betty Lorigan (Robert).
She was greatly loved and will be remembered by her husband, Alfred (Smitty) Smith; her nephew, Robert Lorigan (Kimberly); her niece, Victoria Quadros (Robert), and her step-daughters, Mary Womack (Tom) and Brenda Leftwich (Don). She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all adored her.
A viewing will be held on Feb. 16, 2009, from 6:00-8:00 pm, and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Feb. 17, 2009. Both will be held at Bucktrout Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to Hospice or the Queen's Lake Garden Club
