    Excerpt from "A Genealogy of The Kidder Family": Capt. Solomon Kidder served in the Franch and Indian War as a member of Capt. Melvin's Company in 1754, and 22 June 1754 he embarked on the sloop "Success" from Castle William, Boston, on Shirley's Expedition to the Eastward. He is said to have taken part in the Battle of Bunker Hill, and in 1776 was placed in command as Captain of a Company of 65 Billerica men. One account says he died of wonds received at White Plains, 20 Nov. 1776, while another states he served as major in a Massachusetts Regiment, dying of wounds received while fighting in the Battle of Monmouth.
