Excerpt from "Royalty for Commoners": Jacob (Israel) was b. in Canaan as a twin (bro of Esau); md Leah, of Paddam Aram. they were both bur in the family cave of Machpelah. Jacob awas a prosperous sheep herder and livestock owner.
Genesis 29:31-35
But because Jacob was slighting Leah, Jehovah let her have a child, while Rachel was barren. So Leah became pregnant and had a son, Reuben (meaning "God has noticed my trouble"), for she said, "Jehovah has noticed my trouble-now my husband will love me." She soon became pregnant again and had another son and named him Simeon (meaning "Jehovah heard'), for she saiod, "Jehovah heard that I was unloved, and so he has given me another son." Again she became pregnant and had a son, and named him Levi (meaning "Attachment") for she said "Surely now my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!: Once again she was pregnant and had a son and named him Juday (meaning "Praise"), for she said, "Now I will praise Jehovah!" And then she stopped having children.
Genesis 35:9-10
Upon Jacob's arrival at Bethel, en route from Paddn-aram, God appeared to him once again and blessed him. And God said to him," You shall no longer be called Jacob ('Grabber'), but Israel ('One who prevails with God')

Excerpt from "Royalty for Commoners": Judah (Judeh), b. in Canaan, md Tamur a Canaanite, dau of Shua, and widow of Judah's elder sons Er and Onan.
1 Chronicles 2:3-4
Judah had three sons by Bath-shua, a girl from Canaan: Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the oldest son, Er, was so wicked that the Lord killed him.
Then Er's widow's Tamar, and her father-in-aw, Judah, became the parents of twin sons, Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons.

The sons of Israel were:
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah,
Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Joseph,
