  	In Memory of Stanley Ray Evans Obituary for Stanley Evans Stanley Ray Evans May 29, 1950 - October10, 2012 "Those that understand, teach." - Aristotle A gifted educator and free spirit, Stan touched the lives of thousands of students as an English professor at Indiana State University. His dedication to his students and passion for teaching was evident to all who knew him. Stan was a talented gardener, well known to have designed a glorious outdoor setting at his house worthy of a fancy gardening magazine. A huge fan of the ISU women's basketball and volleyball teams, Stan supported the Sycamores and the Terre Haute downtown community in many ways. His daughter, Kari, will always remember him as an amazing father who showed her how to be strong, independent, moral and giving. Born in Oakland City, Stan was raised in Mt. Olympus and attended Princeton High School (Class of 1968), where his father taught and inspired his desire to become an educator. An education major at ISU, Stan stayed with his Sycamores as a professor until his retirement in 2010. Stan will be missed by his family and friends. Stan is survived by his daughter, Kari and her husband, Patrick Bennett, and grandchildren, Will and Ellen of Noblesville; his father, Joseph Paul Evans, and his wife, Mary of Princeton; his brother, Phil Evans, and his wife, Kathy of Tampa, Florida; his sister, Paula, and her husband, Mike Carnahan of El Paso, Texas; and beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Stan was preceded by his mother, Lorene Faye Evans, and his niece, Elaine Renee Evans. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
