Oliver Raymond Swenumson was born on June 1, 1910 to Sundry and Kate (Dahlin) Swenumson in Long Hollow Township west of Sisseton, SD. He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1926. He attended St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota for a year and one half before returning to Sisseton to help on the family farm.

Oliver was very active in the Masons, Eastern Star, Roberts County Historical Society, The Sisseton Cemetery Board, and several other Civic organizations and activities. They traveled over the entire United States and also to the Scandinavian countries. One of his biggest interests and projects was his antique collection and the joy he had in showing their display to guests.
