- Funeral mass for John "Jamie" James Laffitte, 69, were held Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mansfield, LA, Reverend Edmund A. "Larry" Niehoff officiated. Burial followed in Carmel Cemetery, Carmel, LA.
Jamie was an avid softball coach; he coached over 700 girls from all over the country. He was an Assistant Coach at Mansfield High School. In June of 2000 Jamie was honored to be inducted into the Louisiana High School Softball Coach's Hall of Fame. Jamie retired from the City of Mansfield as a Water Plant Operator; he also worked for Halliburton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John never met a stranger and was loved by all. The love of his life was his wife and his family. Jamie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years; two daughters and sons-in-law; two brothers and sisters-in-law; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Isaac Van Laffitte, Sr. and Seawillow and J.L. Shoalmire; and brothers Wayne Shoalmire and J.L. Shoalmire, Jr.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Carmel Cemetery Fund, c/o St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 305 Jefferson, Mansfield, LA 71052.
Services were under Rose-Neath Funeral Home Mansfield, LA.
