Name |
Gershom HALL [1, 2, 3] |
- He made his will, Sept. 26, 1727, in which he calls himself a millright, or rather "millwrith"; in the old family burying ground at North Dennis is a grave stone to his memory, and another to the memory of his wife; he removed to Harwich, Mass., and was chosen selectman of that town in 1710, and continued in office for thirteen years, and was chosen representative in 1712 , and was continued in office for three years; he was a committee to repair the church in 1717. It appears from the records that he sometimes acted as a minister of the gospel; the town of Chatham, Mass., voted, in 1703, to give him L26 for preaching for that town one year; he complied with their request, and also preached in that town again in 1706, and perhaps for several other years, he also received a salary for preaching in harwich; his residence in harwich is pointed out as near what is now known as Hall's meadow. To his son Jonathan he gave his homestead and other property; to his son Samuel he gave a good portion of land by deeds; to grandson Edward he gave a good portion; to grandson Gershom he gave his silver tankard, cane, best gun, with means for procuring his education, especially in reading and writing. "Dea. Edward Hall, Gershom Hall and Jonathan Hall lived in the south presint of Harwich in 1746." [1]
