Name |
David WATERBURY [1, 2] |
- He had distinguished service in both the French and Revolutionary Wars. Described as David Waterbury "3d", he was made 1st Lieutenant, Mar. 1755, and Captain, Mar. 1756; promoted to major, Mar. 1759, then described as "Esqr.". But in the Muster rolls, in 1760, Major David Waterbury is called "jr.", the shift in his appellation corresponding to what we found in the vital and land records. At the outbreak of the Revolution, he was called back into military service. In mar. 1775 "David Waterbury junr Esqr." was made Lieut-Colonel;, promoted to Colonel, April 1775; and June 1776, "This Assembly do appoint David Waterbury junr Esqr, to be Brigadier-General of the battalions of milita now to be raised to reinforce the continental army in Canada." He served also as a Justice, and at several sessions as Representative for Stamford. He had children, but we lack sufficient details to give his family. [1]
