Charles M. Mather, Lifetime Resident, Died Last Saturday

Services Held Tuesday Afternoon at Methodist Church, Survived by Wife and Two Sons

Services were held Tuesday, June 24 at the Methodist church for Charles Maxon Mather, age 88, who died at his home in Greene Saturday night, the indirect result of a stroke which occurred a month ago. Mr. Mather had been a man unusual strength and vitality until three years ago when a long siege of influenza weakened him to the extent that he was forced to give up most of his activities. Rev H. F. The Mathers lived on the farm where he had spent his boyhood until 1915 when he bought a tract of unimproved land immediately north of Greene. There he laid out a residential section and built his own house in which he resided at the time of his death. His wife died in April of 1928.

In September of 1931, he was married to Miss Emma Jane Pringle. They spent some time travelling in the north and west and in California, until these last years which he spent at his home here in Greene.

He presented the building in which the Greene Library is located as a gift to the town in 1929 in memory of Laura Ebersold Mather.

He was a member of the Christian church at Clarksville and a member of the Masonic lodge four several years.

Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Milo and Dayton; three grandsons, Eldred of Greene, Ralph of Crockett, Texas, Robert Mather of New York City and one granddaughter, Mrs. Harry Mehlan of Greene and six great grandchildren.
