  1. 1.  Nicholas MOREY died in 1731 in Dighton, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    Name:
He kept a public house at Wells and took an active part in town affairs, holding the office of Selectman for several years. When the settlers were besieged by the Indians on Stage Island he volunteered to go to Portsmouth for aid, remarking that if help did not come they would all be killed or taken prisoners. Securing a canoe he eluded the savages and reached Portsmouth safety. Here he obtained a slope, a number of soldiers and a swivel-gun, and upon his return with these reinforcements the indians were driven off and the settlers rescued.

Nicholas Morey removed to Taunton, Mass., prior to 1692, as he appears as a resident o that town when he bought land there on the 26th of Jany. of that year. Here he resumed tavern keeping and was licensed under the Province law about 1700 to keep an Ordinary.

Nicholas married Mary PENDLETON before 25 May 1685. Mary (daughter of Capt. James PENDLETON and Mary PALMER) was born about 1653 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts; died in 1732 in Taunton or Dighton, Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
