    John was Treasurer of the Dorchester Company (led by Rev. John White of Dorchester, Dorset). John brought servants, John Legge and John King with him and was Deputy governor of Massachusetts. He returned to England on 26 Oct 1641 and died in 1652 at Chaldon Herring, Dorset. His bother-in-law were Edward Clarke, who married Ann Pelham, Thomas Pelham, Isaac Johnson who married Arabella Fiennes for whom Gov. Winthrop named his ship, and John Gorges (b. 1593), son of Sir Ferdinando Gorges, Lord of the Province of Maine, and Anne Bell, who married Frances Fiennes. John is listed in the uncalendared "Proceedings of the Court of Requests of Charles I" (12 Oct 1634) as agent of Dorchester (co. Dorset) of the "adventurers" (led by Rev. John White (1547/5-1648) from 1623-1628 who were involved with salt they had seized at Cape Anne. They were named again on 11 Mar 1636/7 as adventures at Cape Anne in sale, boats, etc. (NEHGR 61:278; 65:298). He immigrated in June 1634 to Boston.
