  1. 1.  Samuel WHITNEY was born on 13 Dec 1727 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut (son of Samuel WHITNEY and Anne LABORIE).

    Name:
    "Whitney Family of Connecticut": b. in Stratford, Conn., 13 Dec 1727; married 26 March 1751, in Stratford, Hannah judson. She was pretty surely the daughter of Capt. james and Martha (Lewis) Judson, who were married in Stratford, 18 Dec 1712; for "Martha Judson, of Stratford, widow of Capt. James Judson, late of Stratford, deceased," released, 30 Sep. 1754 to "Samuel Whitney and Hannah Whitney, wife to ye sd Samll, both of sd Stratford," all her right of dower in "fifteen acres of land Divided or Distributed and set off to ye sd Hannah wife to ye sd Samll Whitnee of Buckswamp in said Stratford, sd fifteen acres being north on ye land of Willm Curtis, east on David Jusdon, Joseph Jusdon and james Judson's land," &c. She died in Stratford, of small-pos, 23 Dec 1760. he was appointed administrator of his father's estate, 21 Feb 1754. The town gave him "Liberty to erect a Store-House, of about 20 feet in length & 18 broad, under ye Bank of ye Mill river, near ye upper ship years, at ye Ram pasture, ye place to be fixed by Thos. Hill & James Smedly, a comtte for that purpose, at sd Whitney's cost," 21 Dec. 1755. he married (2) Martha (?), whose maiden name has not been ascertained. Tradition says that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and that he died in the early part of the war, being one of several who were killed by poison. It is said that he was buried in Stratford; possibly, he was a prisoner in New York at the time of his death. Mrs. Patty Whitney (as she was always called) afrer the death of her husband, lived a widow for many years, during fifteen of which she was mostly confined to her bed by consumption. It is said that she lived in Stratford, Huntington, or Newtown, Conn., perhaps in all of them; living at one time near the house of Landlord Jonathan Scott, who kept a public-house "on the road between Watertown and New Haven," about a mile south of Watertown Village. The date and place of her death are not known. She was a communicant in the P.E. Church.

    Samuel married Hannah JUDSON on 26 Mar 1751 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut. Hannah (daughter of Capt James JUDSON and Martha LEWIS) died on 23 Dec 1760 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
