  1. 1.  John WHITNEY was born about 1777 in Warwick, New York (son of Benjamin WHITNEY and Sarah KETCHAM); died on 9 Jun 1849 in Adrian, Michigan; was buried in Adrian Centre Cemetery.

    Name:
    "Whitney Genealogy": They dwelt in Warwick till 1801, when they settled on the west side of Cayuga Lake, at a place still known as Whitney's Landing, in romulus, New York, on three hundred acres of the south part of lot number 92, which he bought, 5 June 1800, for nine hundred dollars. He was commissioned by Gov. George Clinton, 2 March 1804, as captain in the Cayuga County reg. of Militia, under "Lieut. - Col. Wilhelmus Mynders," and held the position till after the war of 1812, in which he, with his company, served three months on the Niagara frontier. She died in 1824 at Romulus. He married 92d), about the middle of Nov. 1825, at Ovid, NY, Magdalena Wheeler, born near New Brunswick, NJ, in 1778, dau. of James and Magdalena (Duryee) Wheeler, of New Brunswick, and widow of William Walworth. they moved, 26 May 1831, to Adrian, Mich., where he was one of the founders of the Baptist Church, and for many years, one of its deacons. he was a member of the convention that formed the constitution of the State of Michigan. He died in Adrian, 9 June 1849, aged 73 years, and was buried on his own farm, in what is now known as the Adrian Centre Cemetery. She died at Adrian, 14 march 1857, aged 80 years, and was buried beside her husband. Her gravestone calls her name Magdalen Whitney.

  1. 2.  Benjamin WHITNEY was born on 1 Jun 1750 in Ridgefield, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA (son of Daniel WHITNEY and Thankful BURT); died on 1825 or 1826 in Shelby, New York.

    Name:
    "Whitney Genealogy": He lived in Warwick, NY after 1760, until the close of the Revolutionary War, during which he was one of a company of militia, under Capt. Minthorn. They moved to Romulus, NY, and from there to Shelby, NY, where he died in 1825 or 6, and she in 1831 - both at the house of their daughter, Mrs. Sarah (Whitney) Goldsborough. They were buried in Shelby, at Weatherwax Corners. Tradition tells of his mills and other property at Wyoming, Penn., having been burned at the time of the Wyoming Massacre, but he was then only eighteen years old.
