    "The Descendants of William Beardsley and Mary Harvey": His estate was probated on 9 February 1735/36. John was a blacksmith. His will mentions his wife and five sons but not his daughter. In the will recorded at Fairfield, he gave land in unity and reat Neck to his son Andrew. jehiel received his shop and all of his working tools for carrying on the trade, his cart and wheels, and all of his lot and orchard at Walnut Tree Hill. The inventory of his estate was L1,500. he made a will on 11 November 1732. He wrote a codicil on 17 November 1735.

    Notes:

    "The Descendants of William Beardsley and Mary Harvey": Joseph emigrated in 1635 on the "Planter". Originally he was a seaman. However, his father left him half of his estate on the condition that he leave that occupation and care for his mother. Joseph complied with the terms and secured the land. He traded the property on 31 July 1684 to Andrew Gibb in return for Gibb's land in Brookhaven, Long Island where Joseph was then residing.
    Later Joseph returned to Stratford where he remained. In 1693 he joined the Congregational Church. the inventory of his estate was taken on 29 May 1712 and amounted to L782-7-6.

    Joseph married Phebe DAYTON about 1665 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut. Phebe was born about 1640. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Wakelee, heny (s. of James ?). Colonial grant of 50 acres, May 1669, doubtless for service in Pequot War (1637). Granted 200 acres, May 1681, for service to the Colony in or about Mattebeseck (Waterbury) (not laid out until 1726, and then assigned by James, son of Henry, to Benjamin Fairweather of Stratfield).
    Res. Hartford, but removed early to Stratford. Hs wervice at Mattebeseck prob. reers to a punitive expedition of 100 men sent out in Aug. 1639, as a sequel to the Pequot War.
    Married 4 Sept. 1649, Sarah, widow of Judah Gregory, and dau. of Henry Burt of Springfield. He was granted admn, 15 May 1650, on the "Estate of his wive's other husband."
    Will 11 July 1689, codicil 5 Apr. 1690, exhibited 8 Nov. 1690; wife Sarah; sons Delivernce, James, Jacob; daus. Patience and Abigail (single); to Thomas Lattin, five sheep; to Elizabeth Squire, a cow; to dau. Mary Stevens, a cow; to "Henry Sumers yt Lives with me besides what I have Given: A Cow."     From the "Encyclopedia of CT Biography, Vol 1, p. 337": William Beardsley, the immigrant ancestor, was born in England in 1605, died at the age of 56 years; came to America in 1635, located in Hartford 1638, and in the following spring removed to Stratford, of which he was one of the first settlers; was deputy to the General Court 7 years. William, his wife, Mary, daughter, Mary, and sons John and Joseph arrived on the "Planter" of London which sailed from London on April 2, 1635 and arrived at Boston on Sunday, June 7, 1635. William's brother-in-law, Richard Harvie, a tailor, was aboard ship as was his wife Anne.

    Will of William Beardsley

    I, William Beardsley, of Stratford, being sick and weak, but well in mind, do leave this my last Will and Testament. All my daughters that are now married, I give Ten pounds a peace.
    My sonne, Samuell, I give that red cow which I have now lent him.
    I only reserved two acres of that land at Piquanock for my wife to improve, if Joseph fall in to help her, if she please, the rest is Samuels's. I also give him one of ye new white blankets.
    If Joseph, my son, please to be as assistant to my wife, for the carying on of her bysnes whilst she lives, or marries and leaves the sea, I give to him ye half of my accomodations in Stratford; if not, I give him twenty poinds of my share of ye bark, to add to his part.
    I desire my loving wife, that if she please to add to ye portion of any of my daughters, that she would ad to them all alike.
    The rest of my effects I leave to be disposed unto y wife and children, at the discretion of Mr. Blackman, Philip Grove, John Brinsmayd, John Birdsey and Joseph Hawley.
    As also ye care, government and disposal of my children.
    It is my will that Daniell, after the decease of my wife, that he have ye other halfe of ye lots.
    I give to my sonne, John, ten shillings.
