Excerpt from "The Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Vol. II: Thomas was of Ipswich in 1667, when he bought land in Wells, but was living in the town of Wells in Dec., 1669, as a deed to his bro Nathl. expressly states. Sv. states that he preached at Kittery and Isle of Shoals in 1670. He was the first settled minister of the first church in Amesbury, having been settled in 1672 or '3; though preqaching had been enjoyed in the "new town" for ten or twenty years before that time. For the next half century he was the leading spirit of the town.
