Carol A. Vesa Merrillville, IN Carol A. Vesa, age 62, of Merrillville, passed away at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville on Wednesday, April 21, 2004. Carol was a kindergarten teacher at the John Wood Elementary School in Merrillville for the past 38 years. She was a Past President of the Teachers Association. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she joined in on the Bible Study group sessions and enjoyed many years as a wedding coordinator for the church. She was a former member of the Glen Park Baptist Church and very active with the youth group and choir. Preceded in death by her parents, Theodore, Sr. and Sylvia Vesa and brother, Timothy Vesa who passed away March 21, 2004. Survived by two brothers: Theodore (Janet) Vesa, Jr. of Columbia City, IN and David (Patti) Vesa of Mesquite,Texas; sister-in-law, Beth Vesa of Crown Point and one niece, Kya Vesa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24,2004, at 10 a.m. at Geisen Funeral Home,7905 Broadway, Merrillville. Reverend Steve J. DeWitt and Reverend Marvin B. Troyer, officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home, Merrillville Chapel Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carol A. Theodore Vesa Sr., age 87, of Merrillville, IN passed away Thursday, February 14, 2002. He was a retired electrician at U.S. Steel Gary Works and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Ted was born November 15, 1914, in Homorog, Romania and came to America on August 30, 1920, settling in New Castle, PA. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL. Ted married Sylvia Chuch on September 7, 1940. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Sylvia; Parents, Gabriel and Katy Vesa; and two Sisters, Mary (late Joe) Sabo; and Eva Vesa.

He is survived by four children: Carol Vesa of Merrillville, IN; Ted (Janet) Vesa of Columbia City, IN; Tim (Beth) Vesa of Crown Point, IN; and Dave (Patti) Vesa of Mesquite, TX.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18, 2002, at 11:00am at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905, Broadway, Merrillville, IN.

Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.

Received the "Declaration of Intention" and "Petition For Naturalization" records for Gabriel this month, August 2010. It verifies Gabriel's birth date and place of birth. He emigrated to the States from Hamburg Germany on the vessel "Deutschland". Leaving on August 15, and arriving about August 22, 1907. He did not travel with his wife. He traveled with Jeremias CSUCS. Both stated as being born in Gorbed, Hungary. Jeremias was born about 1867. I will be looking into this name to see if he could be related - possible a brother.
Now that I have the correct spelling of Gabriel's last name, I was able to locate the passage of his wife, Elizabeth and children Maria and Ambrus. Elizabeth and Maria traveled to the States on November 21, 1909, arriving around the 30th of November. They emigrated to the States on the vessel "Pannonia". Departing from Fiume (Germany?)
Ambrus, my grandfather, came even later. He left on the vessel "Saxonia". He also departed from Fiume (Germany?). He did not travel alone, for he was only 9 years old. He traveled with Peter LOCSE. Peter was born about 1864. Peter stated his wife was Peterie Locse. (It is hard to read) It is stated that this is Ambrus's aunt. Both were listed as being born in Tenkegorbed, Hungary. Both destinations were for Gary, Indiana. Again, here is another name that I need to research. A new family link.
A Romanian friend of mine said that the correct spelling would be CIUCI. And that in fact it is a Hungarian name.

Marie (daughter of Gabriel HODIS and Anna LUKATZ) was born on 31 Dec 1881 in Austria-Hungary; died on 03 Feb 1955 in Gary, Lake, Indiana, USA; was buried on 7 Feb 1955 in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merriville, Lake Co., Indiana. 1939 Polk's city Directory for Gary, Indiana shows a John Kachoris living with Mrs. Elizabeth Chuch. I've been told by my father, Andrew Chuch, that he remembers that there was a dentist renting a room with his grandmother. This must be John Kachoris.
