    Notes:

Excerpt from "Records of William Spooner, Second Generation": As early as Oct 16, 1669, John Spooner was one of a jury apppointed by the Court of Assistants "to lay out a highway, a county road from Middleboro, Bridgewater, and other places toward Boston." - establishes the fact, that at that date he was a man of consideration, and esteemed by the Court as of sound judgment, - such services were then only confided to men of known worth and intelligence, and usually of mature years.
He further served the Colony as Grand Juror, in 1702; and, his townsmen as Surveyor of Highways, 1686, 1699 and 1700, and was a member of the Town Council 1690. It is recorded that John Spooner was elected, may 18th 1710, to represent Dartmouth in the General Court, but on reference to the published list of officers as complied by Mr. Whittemore, it is not seen that he took his seat as Representative.
It is believed that John married twice, but the names of his wives are unknown.

    Notes:

Excerpt from "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Third Serices, Vol. IV":
"William Spooner, the immigrant ancestor, was of Colchester, England, and apprenticed himself, March 27, 1637, to John Holmes, of New Plymouth, in America, gentleman. He was probably a brother of Thomas Spooner, of Salem, Massachusetts, thought to be son of John and Ann Spooner, who in 1616 were living at Leyden, Holland, where Ann, widow of John, was living in 1630; in 1637 Ann Spooner, doubtless mother of Thomas and William Spooner, was in salem in 1637. William Spooner, as apprentice, was transferred to John Coombs, of Plymouth, July 1, 1637. His name was on the list of those able to bear arms in Plymouth in 1643, and in 1648 he ordered by the court to pay the debts of his master and to take care of the children. He was admitted a freeman, June 6, 1654, and in the same year was surveyor of highways. In 1657 and 1666 he was a juror. About 1660 he removed to Dartmouth, where he and his sons built the first grist mill, in what is now Acusnet Village. He married (first) Elizabeth Partridge, who died Apr 28, 1648; (second) March 18, 1651; Hannah Pratt. He died in 1694. His will was dated March 8, 1693-1694, and his inventory was dated Mar 14. Notes:

    Name:
Residence: Newport. He married first Mary Clarke, the sister of John Clarke. He married second Eleanor (?).

According to Stephen Farnam Peckham in his Genealogy: "John Peckham no doubt came to Boston with Sir Henry Vane in 1634 and he probably met there Mary Clarke who accompanied her brother John Clarke to Boston at about the same time. The acquaintance resulted in marriage of which no record can be found. He probably was one of the party called the Ann Hutchinson party, who founded a settlement on the north end of Rhode Island, which became the town of Portsmouth. In 1640 the bounds of his land were established."

On 20 May 1638 his name appeared on a list as one of those admitted as an inhabitant of Portsmouth. He became a freeman in 1641. In 1648 his second wife Eleanor was baptized.

His residence was in that part of Newport which is now Middletown, and a stone marked J.P. is supposed to mark his grave.
