Excerpt from "Mayflower Families - George Soule": The will of George Soule Sr. of Duxberry dated 11 Aug. 1677, with codicil dated 20 Sept. 1677, and inventory 22 Ja. 1679, gave lands in Dartmouth to sons Nathaniel and "Gorge"; mentions lands in "Middleberry" formerly given to daughters Elizabeth and Patience; names daughters Susanna and Mary; eldest son John tohave the remainder of his housing and lands. The codicil warned son John that if he disturbed daughter Patience, then Patience was to have the house and lands at Duxburrow. The account of John Soule mentions "since my mother died which was three yeer the last December."

Excerpt from "the Mayflower Quarterly" Sept. 2009: The more promising candidate to date would seem to be the George Soule of tingrith, baptized in February 1594/5. Although just a tad older than should be expected for a servant, an unusual clause in his father's will preventing his small inheritance payment until the age of 26 ( in 1621) might be an explantation, and his brother William may have ended up in the "Mayflower" hot-bed parish of Henlow. It was also shown that, contrary to previously published accounts, George Soule of tingrith was not the same man as the George Soule of Flitwick - and, as a result, his wehreabouts as an adult cannot be accounted for in Bedfordshire records.

    Name:
He was a servant of Edward Winslow of Plymouth, probably indentured for seven years. He served as a volunteer for the Pequot War (1637).

According to Francis R. Stoddard in "The Truth About The Pilgrims" page 150, "George Soule came as a servant ofEdward Winslow. He was the 35th signer of the Mayflower compact. He was born about 1600 and is credited to the London contingent. He was the son of John Soule of Eckington, Worcestershire, England. Robert Soule of the family was a London salter. Droitwich, where Edward Winslow as born, was a salt mining place and connected with the salters company of London. This last may have brought George Soule and Edward Winslow together. George Soule married Mary Becket before 1627. His autograph has been preserved."

George married Marie BECKET on 29 Mar 1635 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Marie was born about 1605 in England; died on 16 Dec 1676 in Duxbury, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Excerpt from "Connecticut, 1600s-1800s Local Families and Histories: New England Families, Vol. IV Genealogies and Memorials":

The Delano family is of ancient origin and of royal descent. They were of pure Orman and Flemish blood,in France, and did not intermingle with the French. The family has several royal lines, as is the case with those of royal blood, because of intermarriages, and among their ancestors are: Ruolf, first Duke of the Normans, a Viking, 860: Richard the Fearless; Richard the Good; Robert the Devil; William the Conqueror, King of England and Duke of Normandy; Henry II., King of England; Henry VI, marries Agnes, a descendant of Alfred the Great; Emperor Charlemagne, and many others.

The Delano family went to Leyden to escape persecution in France where the Catholic party was in power and te Inquistion active; they were French Protestants or Huguenots. Philip grew up under the teachings of the separatists of the Established Church of England, and it is thought that he started with the first company of Pilgrims for this country, in the "Speedwell", which had to put into Dartmouth because of a leak. He remained in England until the "Fortune" sailed, the next summer, in 1621, then aged nineteen years, and in 1624 he had a grant of land at Plymouth. This grant he gave up, as he settled in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

He was often surveyor and frequently a member of the grand jury. He was a volunteer in the Pequot War, June 7, 1637.

Excerpt from "Philip Delano of the Fortune 1621": Philip Delano served on the Plymouth Grand and Petit juries, on the committee to view "the hay grounds", as a surveyor, and volunteered to serve n the Pequot War. In 1633, he was in the first list of Plymouth Colony Freemen.
There is no probate record for Philip Delano. An inventory taken and exhibited to the Court on 4 March 1681/2 on the "oath of his son Samuel" mentions only the personal estate with no real estate involved.
