Ezekiel married Lucinda FLETCHER on 25 May 1791 in Townshend. Lucinda died on 30 Sep 1850 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA; was buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Kalamazoo, Michigan. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

It is not very clear what pursuit he followed during his early manhood, but was probably a farmer and general trader. The records show that his father gave him land which he sold to his bothers when he moved to Massachusetts, or afterwards. He went with his family to Shelburn Falls, Mass., a short time previous to the outbreak of the Revolutionary war, probably about 1770. He did not serve in the army during the war, being 53 years of age when it began. But he sent 6 sons, Ezekiel, Hazael, John, Newton, Calvin and Jabez, all of them mere youths at the time of their enlistment, but became sturdy soldiers in the Massachusetts Continental Line. The family records speak of Newton as a devoted patriot in the cause of American liberty, and as a very pious and exemplary man in all the relations of his daily life. His descendants at the close of the war scattered to make new homes for themselves in Vermont and Eastern New York, and in course of time many of them emigrated to Michigan and other Wester States, where they became actively interested in the social and political affairs of the communities in which they lived. Newton at the time of his death was with his son Luther, then a practicing physician at Halifax, VT., and is buried in the grave yard at that place.

Robert of Colchester undoubtedly led an industrious life and was largely engaged in the acquisition of wealth, though it would probably do him an injustice to say that he did not divide his time impartially between treasures of the heavenly and earthly sort, for his interest manifested in the affairs of the Colchester Society indicates that he did not overlook the spiritual concerns of the good people with whom his fortunes were cast. His daily duties and exemplary life, as commemorated by local and family records, mark him as an interesting character. He and Alice reared a large family, 7 boys and 4 girls, and all them, so far as the history of their careers has been preserved, seem to have achieved success in their varied lives, and their share of honors in public stations.

Robert died supposed on the old farm near Colchester.

Robert married Alice NEWTON before 1709. Alice (daughter of James NEWTON and Mary HUBBELL) was born on 28 Feb 1686 in Colchester, New London, Connecticut, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

On her father's side, Alice was lineally descended from Richard Smith, the first settler in Narragansett Country, through his daughter Joan, who married Thomas Newton, father of James. It is not improbable that James Newton moved from Fairfield, taking with him his daughter Alice when she was quite young, and at North Kingston, where they settled, she first met Robert, her future husband, and that they became playmates and companions from that time. The date of Alice's death and place of burial are unknown. From the fact, however, that she did not join him in the deeds to his sons, distributing his estate, nor in other conveyances of real estate executed by him for many years previous to his death, it is to be inferred that Robert survived his wife a considerable period. The Newtons had a family burying ground and it is not unlikely that Alice was laid to rest there among her kindred. That Robert, when he passed away was buried by her side, and the graves either left unmarked, or headstones, if erected, have long since crumbled to dust by the wasting touch of time.
