    Name:
He was the son of Samuel Kirtland & Martha Whittlesey. He married Sarah Meigs on Mar. 16, 1758 at Saybrook, New London County(later became Middlesex County), CT. Some of the earlier descendants seemed to think that he died in New York City. The old Connecticut Death/Burial records show that he died in Saybrook, Ct. Although that record does not give a date, the probate records give us a year. His wife, Sarah and son, Martin, Jr. were granted admin. of his estate on June 13, 1782. See Deep River, CT Probate Records, FHL # 5529. Martin served in the American Revolution. He was encamped with the main Army during the summer of 1778 in White Plains, New York under General George Washington. As a Captain, he belonged to the 9th Company, 6th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers. He retired on Nov. 15, 1778.
