Rickard Francis Donovan was known as "Frank".

(Phillipsburg Kansas Newspaper in about 1905): Frank Donovan of Sumner township was appointed treasurer by the county commissioners last Friday. In the appointment of a treasurer, Mr. Bogart was in favor of C.F. Barber of Kirwin; Joe Brown was holding out for Mrs. Bowman and backed by his friends of this city; and the Republican Mr. Grewel, was in favor of Frank Donovan as long as a Democrat has to be appoijted as the treasurer of this county.
In the final issue Mr. Grewel named thetreasurer and Mr. Bogart threw over his frinds in Kirwin to help appoint Mr. Grewel's man. Brown still held out for his applicant.
Mr. Donovan is the son of Michael Donovan, who formerly lived in this county but now resides in Norton County. He is about 35 years of age and one of the most highly respected men in Sumner Township. He is a very bright and intelligent gentleman with a high standard of morals of fusion. It is thought that Mr. Donovan will be a very capable man and will be successful in filling out the unexpired term of Mr. Bowman. (He was eleced thereafte to two terms as the Phillips County Treasurer.)
He was also treasurer of the township, and helped build Sacred Heart Church, Bloomington NE. He was president of the Aponee State Bank and Secretary and Director of the Naponee Equity Exchange. He was well-though-of, a farmer and cattle feeder (Newspaper Nov 8, 1923) Frank didn't work much in the fields. His boys did mot of the farm work (a neighbor, Mrs. Nortopn's, recollections.)
He dided of appendicitis at Cambridge NE hospital (lived in Phillips Co., KS, adress Naponee). He wouldn't go to the doctor because Kate was close to the delivery of Mark and he didn't want to leave her alone. The funeral service was held there, then his body was taken to Dubois, KS to be interred.

OBITUARY: (Blooimington NE Advocate-Tribune, provided by Rena (Mrs. Duane Donovan): :The many friends of rickard Francis Donovan were pained to learn of his sudden death in the hospital in Cambridge NER on August 1, 1924, from an attack of appendicitis that was so bad that an operation could not relieve him.
The deceased was born at Pawnee City, NE Nov 17, 1871, and came with his parents to Phillips County, KS, where he resided until his death.
He was an active man, serving in the Kansas Legislature in 1916-17. He was County Treasurer of Phillips County for two terms. He was president of the Naponee NE State Bank and secretary and director of the Naponee Equity Exchange.
He was a kind husband and father, loved by a large circle of friends and neighbors. As was his request, the remains were brought to this city on Saturday morning and laid in state at the Cathiolic Rectory until Saturday afternoon when the services were held at the Sacred Heart Church, conducted by the Rev. Farris and the remains interred in DuBois Cemetery (West Cedar) north of Agra, Kansas.
A large concourse of friends and neighbors who were present at the services indicated the respect and admiration they had for the departed. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, two daughters, five sons, two step-children, a mother and a host of friends.

Rickard married Ura May COTTRELL. Ura (daughter of Sinnett Triplet COTTRELL and Rachel Marilla NICHOLAS) was born on 31 Oct 1875 in Quitman, Mossouri; died on 24 Aug 1911. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Excerpt from "Descendants of George Rowells": by Ann Moloney Lamb:

OBITUARY: "Mrs. May Donovan, wife of county treasurer Frank Donovan, died August 24, 1911, after less than a day's illness, aged thirty-five years, nine months and twenty-four days. Consternantion and grief were not limited to Sumner township, as whereever telephone, telegram and letter carried the sad words, aching hearts bore evidence of wide spread, esteem and affection, which was confirmed by Rev. Lucas' choise of Romans 8:16-17 as consolation for the breaved relatives and more than house full of friends. The mother and two brothers from Oklahoma and Mr. M. Donovan's family of Norton, were present. Thirty-seven black bowns worn with as many of white, corresponding to the one nestling in the filmy silken lace of the one who "no more would join their numbers" told of fraternal association, whose quartette trremblingly voiced "Sister Thou Wert Mild and Lovely." Rare floral beauties from Naponee and neighborhood mutely forshadowed something of the glories of the resurrection. Despite the fierce storm of dust, twenty-severn teams followed the beautiful white casket eleven miles, where a delegation of Agra W.C.T.U. kindly added a large wreath and other emblems to the last resting place in the Dubois cemetery."
