    John De Mowbray, Knt., 4th Lord Mowbray of Axholme, co. Lincoln, son and heir, was born at Epworth on 25 June 1340. He was knighted in July 1335 when the King was with his fleet in the Downs on his way to an invasion of France. Next year he served in the Brittany campaign. He was summoned to parliament from 14 Aug 1362. "John de Mowbray, knt., lord of Axiholm", died testate, being slain by the Turks in Thrace near Constantinople on 9 Oct 1368.

York, 2nd Lord Mowbray, by Alice, daughter and co-heiress of William de Brewes, Knt., Baron of Bramber, Sussex, lord of Gower in Wales. He was born at Hovingham, co. York, on 29 Nov 1310. He was imprisoned in the Tower with his mother on 26 Feb 1321/2. On the accession of King Edward III, his father's attainer was reversed, and he had livery of all his lands except the Isle of Axholme. He was summoned to parliament from 10 Dec 1327. He was Governor of Berwick-on-Tweed 15 apr 1340, and served in the Scots and French wars. He was one of the Commanders of the English Army at the Battle of the Border till his death.

    He was summoned to Parliament v.p. on 6 Feb 1298/9 by writ directed 'Henrico de Lancestre nepoti Regis', whereby, he may be held to have become Lord Lancaster. He took part in the siege of Carlaverock in July 1300. He was created Earl of Leicester on 29 Mar 1324, and restored as Earl of Lancaster between 1324 and 1326 succeeding his older brother Thomas. On the Queen's return to England with Roger de Mortimer in September 1326, he joined her party against King Edward II, which led to a general desertion of the King's cause. He was sent in pursuit and captured the King at Neath. He was appointed to take charge of the King, and was responsible for his custody at kenilworth. About 1330 he became blind. Upon the fall of Mortimer his close personal relations with the young King were renewed.

    Thomas of Norfolk (of Brotherton), Knt., fifth son, was born at Brotherton, co. York, on 1 June 1300. He was assigned the estates of Roger Bigod, late Earl Norfolk (with his brother Edmund jointly) by their brother King Edward II, and was created Earl of Norfolk on 16 Dec 1312. He was summoned to Parliament on 3 Jan. 1312/3, and was created Marshal of England on 10 Feb 1315/6. He was married for the first time about 1316, or about 1320 to Alice De Hales, daughter of Roger de Hales, Knt., of harwich, Essex. Earl Thomas gave unhesitating support to the opposition by Queen Isabel, and met her in 1326 at her landing on his own property at Orwell, but in 1329 joined the alienated magnates against her and Roger de Mortimer, Earl of March, and had charge of Mortimer's execution (though his son was married to Mortimer's daughter).
