The farm of D.B. Chaffee contains 160 acres, half of which is timber, twelve acres corn, and fifteen oats. Last year, corn was a good crop and oats yielded 650 bushels from ten acres. The stock consists of twenty-five cows, (the milk of which is sent to Chicago), eight horses and a number of hogs. there is an excellent spring on the place, which the owner has utilized for a pool in his milk house. The farm is abundantly watered by Mill Creek. It is two miles from Blackberry Station. This gentleman is a Methodist and the family attend church at Canada Corners.

He enlisted in Company B, 29th Illinois Volunteers, in the spring of 1863 for three months, and was taken ill with typhoid fever and compelled to return home, while with his regiment at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, guarding Southern soldiers. He is a farmer and lived from 1841 to 1881 in Campton, removing in that year to Garden Grove, California.

Dorr married Ladona T. TREADWELL on 15 Nov 1865 in Kane County,Illinois. Ladona was born about 1844 in Canada; died in 1881 in Illinois; was buried in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin, Kane Co., Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes from "Commemorative Portrait and Biographical Record of Kane and Kendall Counties, Ill." under Alonzo D. Chaffee: His father, Eber Chaffee, was a farmer, and a native of the same place (Windham County, Vermont he married Anna Davis, and by this marriage there were twelve children..... Four of the sons are living in Los Angeles, Cal., where they have homes. In 1841 Eber Chaffee removed with his family to Illinois, and settled in Campton Township, whre he engaged in agricultural pursuits, and lived until the time of his death, which occured in August, 1877, he being at the advanced age of seventy-seven years; Mrs. Chaffee having preceded him to the other world in October, 1876, at the age of seventy-three years, and both are buried in Stewart's Cemetery.

Eber married Anna DAVIS on 09 May 1822 in Athens, Windham Co., Vermont. Anna was born on 07 Apr 1803 in Grafton, Windham County, Vermont; died on 24 Oct 1876 in Campton Township, Illinois; was buried in New Hampshire Cemetery, Lily Lake, Kane Co., Illinois . [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
