    He was Justice of the Peace and Sheriff of King William County and a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses for King William County in 1768 and 1769. Colonel Claiborne was the owner of Sweet Hall Plantation during his lifetime.

    She was the sister of Martha Cole, whose husband, Thomas West, was the brother of Jane's third husband. Jane's first and third husbands were fist cousins once removed. Her father was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1718 and 1726. Jane operated the Ferry after Nathaniel Claiborne's death in 1756. There were not children of colonel Francis West and Jane Cole.

    He was captain of dragoons in the King William County militia in 1702. He held 1,000 acres in the county in 1704 and received a patent for the 1,800 acres included in his plantation as "Sweet Hall" on 5 Sep 1723. Thomas was the grandson of Governor William Claiborne of Crayford Parish, co. Kent, who arrived in Jamestown on the ship "George" in Oct 1621. Elizabeth Butler, wife of Governor Claiborne, was of royal and noble ancestry. Governor William Clayborne/Claiborne was an English pioneer, surveyor and an early settler in Virginia and Maryland, who became a wealthy planter, trader and a major figure in the politics of the colony. "William Claiborne may have been the most consistently influential politician in Virginia throughout the whole of the pre-Restoration period," wrote historian Robert Brenner.

    He was a vestryman and warden of st. John's Episcopal Church and justice of King and Queen County (1698-99). John was first sheriff of King William County in 1702 and senior presiding justice, who owned 2,000 acres there in 1704. He was a member of the House of Burgesses from 1710-12 and resided in Huntington (on the Mattaponi river), King William County. The Fox family kept in close touch with England for several generations. Henry Fox went there and his grandson was educated there. Henry arrived in London in May 1655 in the "Thomas and Mary", John fox commander. Henry's father John arrived at Jamestown in the fall of 1625 (at age 19). John Fox commanded several trading vessels that sailed the Atlantic between Virginia and London. he was ordered to command "The White Horse and Curry Comb" on a voyage to Virginia in 1650 and was master of the "Resurrection" in 1662 when his brother, Stephen Fox, a passenger on John's vessel, made his will remembering his four other brothers and sister.

    Henry was the grandson of Thomas Fox, who was a member of the Virginia Company of London in 1609. Thomas died in England while his son John Fox was at sea on his way to Jamestown. John bought 200 acres of land in Gloucester County, Virginia about 1682. His son and heir, Henry, granted a patent for the land which his father had purchased from Thomas Hanks, and also for an additional 100 acres.
