    James Butler or Le Botiller, 2nd Earl of Ormond, was born at Kilkenny on 4 Oct 1331. He resided chiefly in Ireland, distinguishing himself in the wars there, and receiving many grants for his good services. He was several times Chief Governor of Ireland.

    James Butler, Earl of Ormond, died aged fifty-one in his castle of Knocktopher on 18 Oct or 6 Nov. 1382, and was buried at Gowran.
