    Name:
    Sir Richard Bydges of West Shefford, Berks., son of Henry Brydges. He died between 24 July 1558 and 1 Sep 1558, the dates of the execution and probate of his will. He was bur. Ludgershall, where it was said that fragments of his monument were visible as late as 1812. Sir Richard was keeper of the castle in Ludgershall from 1539 until his death. He was elected to Parliament eight times between 1523 and 1558 and was knighted on 19 Oct. 1553. he held many positions, including commissioner of tenths of spiritualities in Berkshire, 1535; justice of the peace inBerkshire, 1538-1558, and in Wiltshire, 1543-1547; sheriff of Oxford and Berkshire, 1539-154; and joint (with William Thornhill) receiver of the Duchy of Lancaster for Berkshire, Buckingham, Dorset, Gloucester, Hampshire, Hereford, Oxford, and Wiltshire from 1641 until his death.
