  1. 1.  Isaac STEARNS was born in England; died on 19 Jun 1671.

    Name:
    Isaac Stearns, from Nayland Parish, Suffolk, England, came to America in 1630, probably in the same ship with Gov. Winthrop and Sir Richard Saltonstall. he settled in Watertown, near Mount Auburn. He was a freeman in 1631; hence, a church member; and several years selectman. In 1647 he and Mr. Biscoe were appointed "to consider how the bridge over the river shall be built, and to agree with the workmen for doing it, according to their best discretion" - the first mention of a bridge over the Charles river at Watertown. He possessed unusual financial means for that time. He owned 467 acres of land, and the inventory of his estate amounted to L524.04.00.
