He resided in King William County, were he was a justice and owned an ordinary, which he rented (15 Sep 1768). Francis was owner of the brigantine "Friendship" in 1770 (May 14), which was wrecked on the coast of Portugal. He moved to Lunenburg County about 1775 and then to Mecklenburg Co., which he represented in the House of Delegates. Roger served in the American Revolution.

Roger married Mary Cole CLAIBORNE on 2 Sep 1756 in King William, Virginia. Mary (daughter of Colonel Nathaniel CLAIBORNE and Jane COLE) was born on 7 Mar 1737/8 in Sweet Hall Plantation, Old New Kent, Virginia; died on 10 Nov 1771 in Elsing Green Plantation, King William, Virginia. He was Justice of the Peace and Sheriff of King William County and a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses for King William County in 1768 and 1769. Colonel Claiborne was the owner of Sweet Hall Plantation during his lifetime.

Name:
She was the sister of Martha Cole, whose husband, Thomas West, was the brother of Jane's third husband. Jane's first and third husbands were fist cousins once removed. Her father was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1718 and 1726. Jane operated the Ferry after Nathaniel Claiborne's death in 1756. There were not children of colonel Francis West and Jane Cole.
