3. | Isabella Of ANGOULEME was born in 1188 in Angouleme (daughter of Aymer "Taillifer" DE VALENCE and Alice DE COURTENAY); died on 31 May 1246 in Fontevraud; was buried in Fontevrault Abbey. Other Events and Attributes:
- Name: Isabella De Taillefer
- Name: Isabelle Of Angouleme
- Crowned: 08 Oct 1200, Westminster Abbey
Notes:
Isabella, "as a penance for her sins", she desired to be buried humbly in a common cemetary at Fontevrault.
Her son, Henry III "some years later" had her body moved into the Abbey and ordered an effigy for her tomb.
Isabella's varying situations demonstrate the modern-day definitions of the different kinds of queens. When she was married to the reigning king, she was a queen consort. When John died, she became a queen dowager, and if she had ruled for her young son, Henry III, she would also have been a queen regent.
