CYRUS SLAUSON MEETS WITH AN AWFUL DEATH.

Killed While at Work on His Mountain Wood Lot -

Found Unconscious by Stricken Wife? The Funeral.

    From our Halcottville correspondent.

Our usually quiet village was thrown into a state of great excitement on Friday when it was learned that Cyrus Slauson, one of our best and most respected citizens, had met with a tragic death.

In the morning he had gone with bis horse on the mountain to start drags of wood out to the roadway.

About 11.30 his horse came home alone, and Mrs. Slauson, fearing that something was wrong, with Mr. Hulbert, started at once to Investigate. They were followed by others.

Arriving on the mountain Mr. Slauson was found lying unconscious in the wood road with his head down bill, appearances indicating that he had been dragged some distance.

His skull was fractured was fractured near the right temple and he was otherwise bruised. He was bleeding profusely and his clothing his saturated.

The injured man was carried on a blanket to a wagon and removed to his home in the village, where Dr. Gaul did everything for him in the power of medical skill, as did also Dr. Hillis of Griffin Corners, who anlved shortly after Mr. Slauson was brought home.

But medical skill proved of no avail and at 2 p.m. Mr. Slauson passed quietly away.

While it will never be known just how the accident happened, it Is thought that he was run over by a rolling log.

Deceased leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. E. C Beardslee, to mourn his untimely end. He will also be missed by a wide circle of friends who loved him for his kindly ways and sterling worth. He was 56 years old.

He was a most devoted husband and father, and he will be greatly missed in the home that was the fruit of an industrious life. In his removal a kind neighbor and an ever helping hand have been taken away.

The funeral, which was in charge of Charles Gorsch, Jr., of Roxbury, was largely attended on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Old School Baptist Church, Elders Hubbell and Clark officiating. Interment in the Kelly Corners cemetery.
