    Notes:

    Name:
Cloyd M. ZEBOLD-W.W.II-died 27 December 1946. Death struck suddenly in a pre-dawn traffic accident today involving two automobiles on Route 39 about four miles southeast of Shelby. CLOYD MEEKIN ZEBOLD, 51, 120 East Main Street (Shelby) is dead. Robert Moore 24, 30 Second Street (Shelby) driver of the second car is confined to the Memorial Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for shock and bruises. The accident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. Each man was riding alone as nearly as could be learned. The two automobiles were towed to the Bourgeois garage in badly damaged condition. Mr. Zebold's body was removed by the Barkdull ambulance. Mr. Moore was brought to the hospital by a passing motorist. Both men were on there way to work in Mansfield. Mr. Zebold has be employed at the Ohio Brass Company and Mr. Moore is an attendant at the Canfield Oil Station. As nearly as could be determined today by observers, Mr. Zebold had stopped his auto, possibly to fix a flat and was believed in front of his car when it was struck from the rear by the second auto. State Highway patrolmen were unable to arrive at the scene before removal of at least one of the cars and could give no firsthand account of the accident. Arriving at the scene of the accident, attendants of the Barkdull ambulance found the body of Mr. Zebold well under the front end of his auto. The tow truck lifted the front end of the Zebold auto so that the body could be removed without danger of further injury but there is no assurance but what the victim already was dead upon their arrival. The back of his overcoat was badly torn giving evidence he had been dragged a distance. The body suffered only minor lacerations. According to alleged statements given to relatives this forenoon, Moore was reported to have said he was blinded by the headlights of an approching car and got just a momentary glimpse of the back end of the Zebold auto before he struck it. He apparently recalls little of what occurred after that. Placing credence to the story that Cloyd had stopped to repair a flat tire was the flat front right tire on his auto after the crash. The automobile keys were still in the door of the trunk that had been ripped off during the collision. The rear end of the Zebold car was badly damaged. The spare tire was pinned in the demolished trunk by the accident. The front end of Moore's auto was badly damaged. The left front tire was twisted back against the frame. The steeling wheel was broken, apparently by the impact of Moore's body. X-rays at the hospital revealed Moore suffered no broken bones. Mr. Zebold, who spent almost his entire life in Shelby is survived by his widow, Helen; one son Cloyd Jr., two daughters, Helen Carolyn and Sarah Frances, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Anna Zebold of Shelby; five brothers, Russell of Long Island, NY, George of Chicago, Glenn of Shelby, Robert and Haven of Cleveland; and one sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hunter of Shelby.
