    Age: 85

    Former Grosse Pointe Woods resident Peter L. Alpideo Palombit, 85, of St. Clair Shores died on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Bon Secours Hospital.

    He was a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods for 35 years. he was born on Jan. 22, 1921, in Detroit to Ricardo and Angela Palombit. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

    He worked with his brother, Louis Palombit, in the family-owned business, Palombit Tile & Marble Co., which was founded by their father and was a major supplier of commercial tile, marble and terrazzo.

    He was a charter founding member of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish ad of the Jack Lowther Michigan Little League Football Organization. He coached the Grosse Pointe Woods Spartan Little League football team for 15 years and was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and University of Notre Dame football teams.

    Mr. Palombit and his wife Virginia, traveled extensively but he was happiest being in South Bend, Ind., for a Notre Dame football weekend. He enjoyed music and had a very extensive record collection, especially the music of George Gershwin.

    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia; daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Van Assche and Elaine (Vincent) Peseski; sons, Peter (Carol) and Anthony (Janyce); grandchildren, Amy (Anton) Fedorov, Nicholas Palombit, Marissa (Greg) Garczynski, Jonathan Van Assche, and Paul and Alaina Peseski; and great-grandchld, Nicolette Fedorov.

    He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Van Assche; and his brothers, Louis and Rudolph.

    A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 3, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in grosse pointe Woods. Interment is at St. Paul Columbarium in Grosse Pointe Farms.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

    Virginia Marie Palombit
    Age: 81

    Virginia Marie Palombit, 81, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 in the Bon Secours Place Assisted Living facility in St. Clair Shores. She was a former Grosse Pointe Woods resident for more than 30 years.

    She was born in Detroit to Clovis and Virginia (Payette) Sevigny. She was a graduate of Annunciation High School.

    She was very proud of her French Canadian Heritage. Genealogy became a "hobby" that had her spending hours in The Burton Collection of the Detroit Public Library in Downtown Detroit, as well as traveling to Ontario and Montreal.

    She and her husband of 63 years, Peter, whom she married during World War II, traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. they visited France several times, which enabled her to trace her roots back to the 1100's.

    She was a member of the French Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan. Its July journal will feature a tribute to Mrs. Palombit along with one of her ancestral charts.

    She was a fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Notre Dame football and figure skating. She was a avid reader, especially of historical books about American settlers.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Peter L. Palombit, and a grandson, Michael Van Assche. she is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Van Assche and Elaine (Vincent) Peseski; sons, Peter (Carol) Palombit and Anthony (Janyce) Palombit; grandchildre, Amy (Aton) Fedorov, Nicholas Palombit, Mariss (Greg) Garczynski, Jonathan Van Assche and Paul and Alaina Peseki; a great-grandchild, Nicolette Fedorov; a sister Elizabeth DeMars; and a brother, Ted Sevgny.

    A funeral Mass officiated by the Rev. Roger Lumbre was celebrated Saturday, April 22, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment is at St. Paul Catholic Church columbarium.
