About 1688 he built a house and fixed his domicile, on land at West Barnstable which was a part of his father's original purchase; this house was on the spot where now stands the house of William F. Jenkins, the third one there; the second one was that of Maj. Nathaniel Jenkins'. Another house was built about 1736, a part of which is now standing, and is owned by Fred S. Jenkins; this house was probably put up for, occupied, and became the property of Josiah. Josiah probably left it by will to Lot and Nathan, his nephews, it then passed to Philemon--Lot's son and heir--who sold it to Ebenezer Whelden in 1793 when Philemon appeared to have moved out of town. For his second wife Thomas married mercy....

His will was made Nov. 9, 1737; probated Feb. 1745/6.

Thomas married Experience HAMBLIN on 24 Aug 1687. Experience (daughter of James HAMBLIN, Jr. and Mary DUNHAM) was born on 12 Apr 1668 in Barnstable, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Thomas married Mercy WINSLOW between 18 Dec 1712 and 22 Dec 1715. Mercy was born before 1676 in Yarmouth, Mass.; died on 16 Jul 1755 in Rochester, Mass.. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

John Jenkins was born in England in 1614, and was united in marriage to Mary Ewer on Feb. 2, 1652 at Barnstable. She was Quakeress and the widow of Henry Ewer who was born in London in 1629, came to America with is father Thomas and died very soon after his marriage to Mary.

John and Mary probably resided on the Ewer farm in Barnstable near "Coggins Pond" as it was then called; this pond is passed on the left in going into the village of Barnstable from West Barnstable on the State highway. A consideration of all tradition and evidence inclines one to the belief that John Jenkins' remains rest in the old burying ground at Barnstable previously noted.
