"Genealogy of the Bigelow Family": He was a soldier in King Phillip's War in Capt. Tiug's company and was wounded, and in consideration of his services in that war the General Court gave him a grant of land in Narragansett No. 2. He lived in Watertown the most of his life and his children were born in that town, and when his father died he was appointed executor of the will with his brother-in-law Isaac Learned, and was a well known citizen in Watertown; but late in life (his 87th year), being anxious to reside on the land that he had earned at the peril of his life, removed from Watertown (in company with his son Eleizer) to the grant of land in Narragansett No. 2, now Westminster, making the journey June 9, 1742, where he spent the last years of his life, and died Feb. 1, 1745, in the 90th year of his age, and was the first adult who died in the new town...

Joshua married Elizabeth FLAGG on 20 Oct 1676. Elizabeth (daughter of Thomas FLEGG and Mary ?) was born on 22 Mar 1654/5 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts; died on 09 Aug 1729 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Name:
John Bigelow, the immigrant ancestor, is believed to have come from England, but the variations in spelling at the time of his immigration to New England make it difficult to trace he name. The first mention of his name on the records is found at Watertown, Massachusetts, where September 30, 1642, he married Mary Warren, who died October 19, 1691. She was daughter of John and Margaret Warren. In 1652 he took the oath of fidelity there, and April 18, 1690, he was admitted freeman. He was a blacksmith by trade, and was allowed certain timber by the town for building of his forge. He was highway surveyor in 1652-60; constable in 1663, and selectman in 1665-70-71. His homestead consisted of six acres. he married (second) October 2, 1694, Sarah, daughter of Joseph Bemis, of Watertown. He died July 14, 1703. His will was dated January 4, 1703, and proved July 23, same year.

John married Mary WARREN on 30 Sep 1642 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. Mary died on 19 Oct 1691 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
