  • Name Amos DELINE  [1
    • Amos DeLine, a native of Dane county and a resident of Sun Prairie for nearly 30 years, died at his home in this village on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 29, 1908 at the age of 61 years, 7 months, and 11 days. Mr. DeLine had not been in good health for 2 or more years and during the past few months grew gradually worse. A dropsical condition of the heart developed and was responsible for his death. Deceased was born in Cottage Grove, WI on April 18, 1847 and was the son of John and Abiah DeLine. His early life was spent on the home farm in Cottage Grove. When the war broke out he was but 14 years of age and of course too young to enlist but two years later in April, 1863, he presented himself at Madison for enlistment in Uncle Sam's Army and was accepted. He was assigned to Co. I, 23rd Wisc., Vols. as a recruit and later was transferred to the 35th Wisc. Vols. He was in the service until the close of the war and was honorably discharged in the latter part of 1863, broken in health, and as soon as able he took up the voacation of painting, which he followed until about 6 years ago. On January 14, 1880 he was married to Miss Minnie Pinchin at Madison and came to Sun Prairie to reside. Eight children were born to them but misfortune seemed to strike heavily upon them and they lost all but one, a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Phillips, who with the wife, are the only surviving members of his family. Besides his wife and daughter he leaves 6 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John Lewis of Eau Claire; and 3 brothers, William of Eau Claire, John of Duluth, MN, and George of Lowell, WA; and a large circle of friends to mourn his departure. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home on E. Main St. with Rev. C. W. Stark officiating and interment was in the village cemetery.
